Rewilding Bringing Land Back

A barren stretch on the outskirts of the reserve, revitalised into habitat, with species that were always meant to grow here.

Built Around the Trees

“When I was conceptualising the space for Utsav Camp Sariska, one of the most important points was to not disturb the trees. I tried to build around the trees and that’s why sometimes you’ll find one seemingly growing out of nowhere!”

Luv’s passion and dedication to nature were manifest in every facet of his work. Each seed he planted and every tree he nurtured bore witness to his profound affection for the environment. His vision extended beyond merely creating a physical space; he sought to cultivate a deeper bond between humanity and nature. The work of rewilding Sariska’s boundary land began there.

Bringing Land Back

Native Species Only

Hundreds of indigenous trees and plants have been planted on the property. These native species are naturally suited to the harsh Rajasthan summers and do not require extra water or special care to thrive, which is precisely why they were chosen.

Habitat, Not Garden

The land Luv Shekhawat identified was a barren stretch on the outskirts of the reserve. Together with his grandfather he set about revitalising it, not as landscaping, but as habitat that wildlife would choose to use.

Measured Return

Our trained naturalists and rangers regularly document local wildlife with camera traps and photography. We have mapped the habitats around the camp and maintain checklists of indigenous flora and fauna, the record of what the planting brought back.

Why Natives

Planting that Holds Water

The hundreds of indigenous trees and plants that have been planted on the property help maintain the groundwater table at healthy levels. These native species are naturally suited to the harsh Rajasthan summers and don’t require extra water or special care to thrive. To help reduce our water consumption further, linens and towels are changed on request only.
