Most of the leopards seen from this side of the reserve turn up in the buffer land, not the core, working the same rocky ground that holds the boulder fields. A single stay here can take in more of what Sariska actually has than a stay near the main gate usually does.
Leopards
Leopards favour broken, rocky terrain over open forest, and the buffer land around Tehla, thick with boulders and narrow crevices, is exactly that kind of ground. Sightings here happen away from the core safari routes, which means they rarely show up on a standard reserve itinerary at all.
Bring the vehicle count down to the 13 permitted through Tehla Gate, and a leopard stops timing its movements around when it might be seen.
One Stay, Three Terrains
Most safari destinations offer a kind of encounter: a jeep, a route, an animal on a checklist. Tehla works differently, because core forest, buffer land, and boulder terrain all sit within reach of the same stay.
A morning safari inside the park, an afternoon spent among leopard tracks in the buffer, and an evening walking ground that carries prehistoric rock art are 3 different kinds of wildlife encounter, available from the same camp, in the same day.
Wildlife ExperiencesWhat Tehla Actually Has
Leopards, striped hyena, golden jackal, jungle cat, and the elusive caracal move through this ground, alongside sambar and nilgai that gather at the smaller waterholes through the dry months.
Birdlife is rich throughout, the empty roads making it easier to hear the forest before you see it, a call carrying clean across the ridges long before whatever made it comes into view.
